Applying Building Information Modeling (BIM) in the field takes more than an iPad and some PDF Files. From stadium projects to residential foundations, BIM can easily be moved from the office to the jobsite for use with construction-oriented robotic total stations, and work in place can be verified using the same, or at scale using a wide range of reality capture solutions from point-and-shoot imaging devices, to laser scanners, to unmanned aerial systems. In this fast moving set of case studies, learn how contractors – of your size, in your markets, on your project types – have applied BIM directly in the field, at the point of construction.

The use of 3D Laser Scanning in construction has taken off over the past several years, with an explosion of use cases from existing condition capture, to progress verification, to compliance checks and reports. This expanding landscape has been the result of innovation in software to consume and process point cloud data, and sensors that are ever more capable and affordable. Throughout this progression, however, has been a nagging challenge: scanning takes considerable time in the field – and even more time in the office – when collecting large amounts of data.
